Jolielot: In my Instagram, I like to keep it personal

Konstantin Vulkov: What is the perfect number of Instagram posts per day or it all depends on the mood?
Jolielot (Marlot Willems): One every day! I want to share as much as possible with my followers.
Konstantin: Do you follow any specific rules or are just following your heart?
Jolielot: I like to keep it personal. When brands approach me for a collaboration I look closely if whether the brand really suits me. I don’t want to have an account that only promotes products. I want to share things that give me energy, like a good looking meal, a beautiful view or a stunning outfit. Often I just take pictures when I run into something that inspires me. I feel that the surprises that you can come across are the best ones to share!
Konstantin: Do you have a daily regime for work or each day is different?
Jolielot: Jolielot it really a 24/7 thing. I get up with it and take it back to bed. I really don’t mind at all, because it gives me great satisfaction and positive energy. Today I just enjoyed the warmth of the sun which is really uncommon in Holland. The weather can change drastically, so it almost feels like a present! While I am enjoying these beautiful days I am always on the look-out, and my phone is always at my side.
Konstantin: Tell me about the fashion and design heritage of the city you live in? What inspires you there?
Jolielot: Amsterdam is a big city, everybody can dress the way he or she pleases. I didn’t grow up in Amsterdam and where I come from people are not that open-minded and they are not used to people that express themselves with their fashion style. When I moved to Amsterdam it didn’t matter what I wore. You can feel the open-minded attitude right away. It’s great to see that everybody has his own style and we all get inspired by each other.
Konstantin: Every planned to move to another city?
Jolielot: I wanted to move to Amsterdam, so I did. Now my dream is to live in New York for a year and get a glimpse of how the New Yorkers live. I was in New York fife years ago and strange enough it felt like home. For me New York is the ultimate playground with so many great spots to discover and capture.
I can’t wait to visit New York again!
Konstantin: What kind of inspiration or education should a person have in order to become a fashion influencer?
Jolielot: It’s important that you are creative and it helps when you have a good eye for the beauty that other people won’t see right away. I studied Interior Design at the Styling Academie, where I had subjects as photostyling, concepting and trendwatching. These courses helped me to make better content and I am convinced that these skills helped me along the way with my Instagram account. Now I am working on my website www.jolie-lot.com , a lot of crazy stuf ill follow, but I keep that for myself for now!
Konstantin: Did you consider any other profession, rather than this?
Jolielot: I tried to find some work in the direction that I graduated for not find a position that was suited for me.I missed to using my creativity after I graduated and Instagram was a good way to express myself. When I noticed that people liked what I did by commenting and liking my photos more and more, I decided to get serious. Now I am building a website where I want to inspire others to do what they love and what they’re passionate about.
Konstantin: At what time you realized your style is influencing many other people - before or after you started your profile?
Jolielot: Since you asked me this question, lol. Although it is perhaps an odd thing to say about yourself, I always got compliments about how I dressed and the way I combined different styles for example. But especially during focussing on my Instagram account I notice that people got inspired y my looks which honestly feels great! If I could give one advise: dress in the clothes that make you feel comfortable and give you confidence. The designer Vera Wang has a quote that I totally agree with, ’ A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her clothes’.
Konstantin: What inpires you - mood or culture influences like movies, music, books?
Jolielot: I get inspired by cities. Every city has its own color palette and architecture. My dream is to visit Istanbul and Marrakech. I think the buildings, the food and the people will be a great source of inspiration, I can already see myself roaming the markets for beautiful cushions and other must- haves!
Konstantin: Tell me about shopping. Online first. What are you looking for in terms of experience when it comes to online shopping?
Jolielot: I am not a huge fan of online shopping. I love to go shopping and grab a coffee, visit some new stores, discover new labels. The whole atmosphere is what shopping makes so much fun!
Konstantin: Tell us about those physical shops then. What kind of shops you regularly visit?
Jolielot: Amsterdam is full of small boutiques and I love discover them. Amsterdam has a store called Anna+Nina, it is a mix between home asseccoires, jewelry, lingerie and much more cool stuff. It is the perfect store to buy presents for your birthdays. I also love the vintage stores in Amsterdam, I always get inspired by these items. I recently bought a vintage Mochino bag for only 95 euro’s!
Konstantin: If you are to buy only one thing for a woman or a man as a present, what would it be?
Jolielot: For girls it is always nice to buy things like CHANEL lipgloss or nail polish and give it in the small cute CHANEL bags. I like to give something that already looks great even t is still wrapped. It is also hard to go wrong with a small necklace or bracelet or something nice for the home. Most of my male friends ar also really fashionable, so it is easy to buy something they like such as bracelets from Pig and Han or NO LABEL. When my boyfriend turned 30 last month I gave him new shoes, this was not my idea but his!
